About the Symposium

Join leading researchers, clinicians, biobank professionals, patients, industry partners and policymakers from across Ireland for the All-Island Biobank Symposium 2026 — a collaborative event exploring the transformative role of biobanking in advancing healthcare, research and innovation.

About this Symposium

History & Objectives

The All-Island Biobanking Symposium was established to create a shared forum for biobanking professionals, researchers, and policy-makers on both sides of the border. Now in its third year, the event has grown into a key gathering for the Irish biobanking ecosystem.

The symposium exists to strengthen connections across Ireland’s biobanking landscape — aligning standards, sharing best practice, and accelerating translational research that depends on high-quality, ethically-governed biological samples.
Keynotes and breakout sessions surface the latest advances in sample collection, storage, data linkage and downstream analysis from labs across the island.
Dedicated networking and panel formats give early-career scientists direct access to established investigators, programme directors and policy-makers.
Sessions address consent, ethics, data protection and cross-border collaboration so that governance keeps pace with scientific opportunity.

About the Organiser

Biobank Ireland Trust

Biobank Ireland Trust is Ireland’s national charity dedicated to advancing healthcare by supporting the development and sustainability of high-quality biobanking. The Trust works with hospitals, universities, researchers, patients and industry partners to promote the collection, storage and responsible use of biological samples and associated data for research. Through education, advocacy and collaboration, it helps build the infrastructure needed to accelerate scientific discovery and improve patient care.

The Trust champions best practice, public engagement and innovation to ensure that biobanking continues to play a vital role in medical research across the island of Ireland. By fostering partnerships and supporting initiatives that strengthen research capacity, it enables discoveries in cancer, rare diseases and other complex conditions — contributing to earlier diagnosis, more effective treatments and the advancement of personalised medicine for future generations.
